The GAIA CoP works within the field of environmental research and innovation, a field where women and people from marginalised communities are often underrepresented. More specifically, the field of environmental innovation is understood as gender-neutral (i.e. anything that tackles climate change is inevitably good for everyone), which makes advocating for the inclusion of gender and diversity particularly hard. The GAIA CoP aims to highlight, not only inequality in the field, but also the active repercussions ‘neutral’ approaches have on both the quality of the science produced and its impact on society. We are working towards the inclusion of an intersectional gender dimension throughout a research project lifecycle, from initiation, to monitoring, to closing, so that the gender dimension is not only a way to attract funding, but is implemented each step of the way. Finally, we also focus on the transition from research to commercialisation with a specific focus on equality and equity.
